Finally, an AI that knows you.

Trace is the personal intelligence layer built from your tabs, documents, and conversations: understanding what you know, acting on your behalf, all from the browser you already use.

How Trace saves you time

Find anything, by describing it.

Full-text search across every page, PDF, and document you've ever opened. Describe what you remember, not the title, and Trace surfaces the exact one.

Describe it. Don't do it.

Tell the agent what you need and it takes over the page: filling forms, comparing prices, pulling data across tabs, while you keep working.

Turn a conversation into something real.

Ask for a document, a slide deck, a spreadsheet, even a landing page, and Trace builds it inline: a real, editable artifact, not just a wall of chat text.

Every source becomes a connected node.

Ask “which papers I've read compare RAG to fine-tuning” and Trace doesn't just search text, it walks the graph.

Trace works through your day, before you ask.

No prompts needed, just useful work happening quietly in the background.

Morning briefing

Once a day, Trace reviews what you read, what's still open, and what deserves attention next, then delivers it as a short briefing.

Proactive search

Open an article and Trace offers to digest it on the spot, no query typed, no copy-pasting into a chat.

Meeting prep

Before a calendar event, Trace assembles a short brief from your past emails, notes, and conversations, so you're not starting cold.

Just describe it. We'll handle the rest.

What we promise

Zero friction

Every page and document you open feeds your intelligence layer automatically. No plugins to configure, no manual capture, no copy-paste. Just browse.

Private by default

Your history lives locally on your device. Nothing is ever sent to any external server unless you choose a cloud AI provider.

Any AI, no lock-in

Connect Ollama (free, local), OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or Azure AI Foundry. Switch any time. Run entirely offline with no API key required.

Smart calendar

Extract events from any web page automatically, Trace reads the page, finds dates and times, and saves them. Google Calendar-style grid, schedule view, and quick-create form included.

Your questions, answered

Everything you need to know about Trace and how it protects your privacy.

Why is the site called Breadcromb but the product called Trace?

Breadcromb is the company. Trace is the product, the same way Anthropic makes Claude or OpenAI makes ChatGPT. Everything you install and use day to day is Trace.

Is Trace really free?

Yes. Download, install, and use Trace forever at no cost. No telemetry, no subscription.

Does Trace learn about me over time?

Yes. Trace builds a Personal Memory, a persistent set of natural language facts about you, extracted automatically from pages you browse, AI sidebar conversations, social profiles (LinkedIn, GitHub, Twitter/X, Bluesky, and more), and documents you upload. These facts are injected into every chat turn so the AI always knows your context, where you work, what you're researching, what matters to you, without you having to re-explain it each time. You can view, edit, or delete any fact from the Profile panel.

Which AI providers does Trace support?

Trace works with Ollama, Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google Gemini. You can configure different providers for summarization, chat, and navigation planning independently in Settings, and switch any time.

What file types can Trace index?

In addition to web pages, Trace indexes PDFs, Word documents (.docx), PowerPoint presentations (.pptx), Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx), and EPUB e-books that you open in the browser. All are processed automatically, text extraction and AI summary, so they're fully searchable and accessible in the AI sidebar.

Is my browsing data private?

Yes. All your indexed pages, documents, and summaries are stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any external server unless you choose a cloud AI provider for inference.

What platforms does Trace support?

Trace currently supports macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows. Linux support is on the roadmap.

How is Trace different from bookmarks or Pocket?

Trace indexes every page and document automatically, no manual saving. You search with natural language ("show me that PDF about Rust I read last month"), ask questions about what you read, and the AI builds a persistent memory of your interests from your conversations and browsing. Bookmarks require you to remember to save; Trace organizes automatically, so you don't have to.

Not another chatbot. A personal and collective intelligence layer.

It learns with you, works for you, and your data stays on your device, always.
